Hailing from Pottstown, Pennsylvania, Theodore (Ted) Royer, controls specialist at Cornerstone Automation, has a voracious appetite for knowledge and a natural affinity for problem-solving. After spending his college years in Lancaster, PA, and gaining experience in electrical installation, he was excited to return to his hometown to work for Cornerstone Automation. This decision was driven by both his commitment to the company and the request of his long-term girlfriend, Rachel, whom he has been with for six years.
Ted’s academic achievements include graduating from Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology, where he obtained an Associate of Applied Sciences in Electrical Technology. This educational foundation laid the groundwork for his flourishing career in the field.
Recognized Strengths and Contributions
“Ted has a great attitude, takes direction well, and is a good communicator,” described Alan Ferrin, president of Cornerstone Automation.“Since his start at Cornerstone Automation, we have witnessed Ted’s professional growth. He has worked hard, and advanced his skills, most notably in panel building. Ted understands and implements Cornerstone’s philosophy of sharing in our customer’s problems and providing solutions.”
Ted primarily handles panel builds and installation jobs for Cornerstone Automation. Despite being one of the newer team members, he demonstrates a commitment to continuous learning and growth, proven by his growing proficiency in CAD and programming. With his limited tenure, Ted has already made contributions to noteworthy projects.
Ted played a pivotal role in the programming of the Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Human-Machine Interface (HMI) for an oven controls upgrade at a pizzelle maker in Hatfield, PA. This project marked Ted’s first major involvement with the company, where he translated designs into functional components, converted programs, and revamped the HMI graphics. In another instance, Ted took charge of the rework of two panels at a local meat packing plant, known as the “accupump” machines, managing all aspects of programming and creating new drawings for both panels. These achievements showcased Ted’s growing responsibilities and the advancement of his skills as an engineer.
With a year and a half of dedicated service at Cornerstone Automation, Ted continues to advance his skillset, and grow into his role as a controls specialist, delivering results while constantly striving for excellence.
Passions that Fuel Professional Excellence
What truly sets Ted apart is his passion for engineering and his commitment to team collaboration. Being part of a proactive team that actively advocates for equipment and system modernization resonates deeply with Ted. He values the opportunity to contribute to creating lasting and quality solutions, furthering his sense of purpose and professional fulfillment.
Ted’s decision to transition to Cornerstone was motivated by his desire to be constantly challenged and learn from a knowledgeable group of professionals. He firmly believes that work should be more than just a routine; it should be an opportunity to acquire invaluable experience.
Beyond the Workspace
Outside of work, Ted maintains a vibrant and fulfilling personal life. He engages in video gaming sessions with his close-knit circle of friends, fostering bonds and enjoying recreational camaraderie. Ted’s passions extend to tabletop gaming, where he indulges in popular titles such as Magic: The Gathering—a strategic card game—and immersive tabletop roleplaying adventures like Dungeons and Dragons, Pathfinder, and Cyberpunk. Among his friends, Ted is revered as the resident “lorestorian” in their Warhammer 40K: Dark Heresy campaign, embracing his passion for intricate storytelling and game world development.
In his leisure time, Ted also nurtures a fascination for antique and oddity firearms, collecting and appreciating their historical significance. Additionally, he and his girlfriend, Rachel enjoy spending time in nature, often going on foraging hikes in search of the hidden treasures the local landscape has to offer.
